Southeast Alaska Summer Getaway

No more rushing.  Alaska, on YOUR time!

Come visit Southeast Alaska the way it was meant to be - without lots of tourists!  COVID-19 may have slowed down our economy, but it hasn't stopped nature.

Explore the Mendenhall Glacier without thousands of people around you.   Or go kayaking in Auke Bay alongside orcas, seals, and whales and NOT other boats.   Hike up Mount Roberts without inhaling Bunker C Oil exhaust.   Eat halibut chips at the Flight Deck without waiting half an hour for a table.

Alaska & Yukon Tours Southeast Alaska Summer 7 day package pricing varies depending on how far out you book, but the basic package includes airfare from Seattle (we can customize this!), 5 nights accommodations at the BW Signature Collection Baranoff Hotel OR the Juneau Hotel in Juneau, 2 nights hotel accommodations in Skagway, transfers between the airport & your hotel, 1st day will be a "slow" day with just one 3 hour experience and then 3 days of excursions in Juneau, followed by a 2 day expedition to Skagway (including a flight and ferry!)   Due to COVID-19, we can NOT guarantee excursions until about a week before departure due to the crisis, but we promise you an amazing time!

*If you are NOT able to get tested prior to arriving in Juneau, we have a slightly altered package pricing that includes an additional hotel night; this is to give you a 2 day "quarantine" period inside the hotel while you await your results.  This additional cost includes an enhanced Welcome Kit (to keep you busy) and private transportation between the airport and hotel.

AYT guarantees operation of the excursions once they are scheduled, even if we do not have the number of minimum participants required.

Juneau, Alaska is the gateway to Southeast Alaska; and the hub for all of our tour activities.  Juneau, home to only 34,000 residents - is only accessible by plane or ferry due to the mountainous terrain surrounding the city.   But these mountains and ocean provide unparalleled activities.

While in Juneau, you will have the opportunity to partake in a handful of excursions:

  • Whale watching and nature expedition (5 hours)
  • Tracy Arm Fjord adventure (10 hours)
  • Mendenhall Glacier & Visitors Center
  • Best Bites & Booze of Juneau
  • City & State museums and historical sites
  • Brewery Tour & Highlights
  • Mining Museum
  • Flightseeing Adventure (up to 2 hours)
  • Day-time roundtrip ferry to one of our smaller villages - experience the Inside Passage during the DAY! (6 to 10 hours)

Unfortunately due to the cessation of the cruise-ship season, many excursions offered in Juneau and Southeast are not operating or have very limited schedules.  We *guarantee* at least 5 days of excursions on a 7 day trip.

Your first day will start with a pick-up by our partner in Skagway at the airport or ferry terminal.  You will be able to work with them on exactly how much you want to see today (depending on other participants) since you will have some free time in Skagway.  Depending on your arrival, the day will start with a historic tour of Dyea, located about 15 minutes north of Skagway at the base of the narrow Taiya Inlet.  Lunch will be at the Chilkoot Outpost.  After lunch, the tour will continue with a stop at a scenic bluff overlooking Skagway.   We'll also make a stop at the cemetary and see a beautiful waterfall.  Depending on your departure time tomorrow, we may even get you to a few more historic spots in Skagway.  The evening & dinner are at your discretion.

After breakfast & coffee in the morning, your tour will continue with a few more sites in Skagway before beginning a drive up to the White Pass - a windy 2 lane road that climbs up to nearly the 3,000 foot mark.  You'll be awestruck by the views and stops along the way, and maybe even watch the White Pass & Yukon Route historic train make a similar climb across the valley (the train path does NOT cross or parallel the highway).  Our stop at the summit includes a photo op with the "Welcome to Alaska" sign.   The road is kept in very good shape year round, but if conditions are subpar, the tour may not reach the summit.    Our partner will then make a quick stop at the hotel for you to retrieve luggage and then off to the airport or ferry terminal for your trip home.

Your flight to and from Juneau starts your adventure.   Juneau is served by Alaska Airlines & Delta Airlines, with connections available from Seattle or Anchorage to get here.

Both airlines are now limiting capacity due to COVID, which means you probably won't get stuck in a middle seat.  This also means pricing may be a bit higher than most travelers prefer.  The window seat is always the best, allowing you to view the Inside Passage from high above.

Keep your camera handy, as it goes by quickly!

Upon arrival in Juneau, you will be required to show proof of COVID-19 testing or get tested at the airport.

Excursions include at least one way (weather dependent) between Juneau & Skagway.  This 45 minute flight will take your breath away, as we fly 4,000 to 6,000 feet over Lynn Canal and parts of the Juneau Ice Field.

Weather depending, you will get a birds eye view of the Inside Passage, along with our countless water falls, mountain top meadows, snow-capped mountains - and quite possibly a glacier or two.

Bring your camera and be ready to see Alaska from a much different perspective!

Flights are operated by Alaska SeaPlanes using either Cessna Grand Caravan or Pilatus PC-12 aircraft.  Most flights are not pressurized.

Ferry or Catamaran

At least one direction will be on the water - where you'll get to see the Inside Passage during the day (most ships cruise this at night, and its a shame!)

The 3 to 6 hour voyage will get you even closer to some of Alaska's marine wild life - sometimes the purser or captain will announce whale sightings.  Seals & porpoises tend to be easier to spot (look closely along the shore and rocks), along with ample birds.   Orcas & humpbacks will occasionally come to the surface - so keep your camera handy.

Ferries will also have a small cafe should you want a bite, and ample seating with tables.  Power outlets are scattered throughout AMH vessels.

Ferry service provided by either the Alaska Marine Highway or Alaska Fjordlines.
