Belize 22

We've been traveling to Belize for almost 30 years, and thankfully the changes we've seen are slow and the hotels & tourism remains focused on independent travelers (and small hotels/resorts!)

Since Alaska Airlines entered the Belizean market in Fall of 2021, we've put together an amazing 7 day package that covers the core market: 4 days on Ambergris Caye, and 2 or more days inland.

Our package is designed to cater to almost ANY traveler: beach, water, ecotourism, nature, history, wildlife - all in one.

Also included is airfare between Belize City & Caye Caulker - our favorite of the cayes.  This option is the easiest for travelers and you avoid having to wait for a ferry (or get soaked on one, too!).

Upon arrival at Belize City, your first stop is Caye Caulker, on Ambergris Caye.  This quaint island is a 10 minute flight from Belize City (or almost an hour on the ferry).  The island has no concrete roads or private vehicles - everything is packed sand or gravel, with bikes and golf carts being the main mode of transportation.

Beachfront shops, restaurants, and bars line the main street; at the end is the Split, a popular spot to dip your feet in the water and enjoy a drink!  Our main hotel, Iguana Reef Inn, is located just a few blocks from this popular landmark.

We have stayed at this property many times and its probably the best accommodations on Caye Caulker proper.  Each room includes a private bathroom with shower or tub, queen or king size bed, sitting area, air conditioning, and small fridge.  Wifi is also very good for Central American standards - emails, texting, and social media are all easy (but you may have problems with online streaming video due to licensing out of the United States).

The hotel also has a bar & breakfast area, pool, sun deck, and amazing beach area.  In fact, the owners have worked hard at making a marine preserve just by one of the docks - you can see sea horses, and sting rays swim right up to you!   And, did we mention the amazing sunset?

While on Caye Caulker, you can explore the mangroves and look for manatees, feed stingrays & sharks from the beach, lay in a hammock & read a book all day, spend multiple days fishing or scuba diving - the second longest barrier reef in the world is just a mile off shore!

Day trips to the world famous Big Blue Hole are available by sea or air - expect to spend at least $250 per person on this excursion - and its worth it!  Scuba diving on the island is thru Frenchies Dive Services; we will also send you a list of all the tours available thru two of our partner hotels (which will all depart with only a minimum of 2 guests, so no worrying about cancelled trips with not enough people).

Ambergris Caye's most popular destination is San Pedro, which is a short 30 minute ferry ride away ($15 USD).  This island is more developed with paved streets, more restaurants, and hotels.  San Pedro is rapidly growing and now includes US branded chain hotels & condos.   We are working on adding an option for those who want to spend time on San Pedro, and it is a very short boat trip from Caye Caulker.

Day 4 you board our reliable partner, Tropic Air, for the quick flight back to Belize City.  To get to San Ignacio & the Belize Zoo, you can select a rental car or transfers with William - a local in San Ignacio that we trust more than any ground shuttle outside the US!  We don't include the cost of ground transportation in this package to provide you better options and you'll pay those vendors directly.  The shuttle starts at $100 USD roundtrip per person; car rentals are typically $250 range + insurance (we *URGE* you to please do this!).

At the Belize Zoo, you will never get this close to wildlife in your life!  The zoo is a reknown "rescue" that has housed and rehabilitated almost every animal found in the Yucatan Peninsula.  Conservation & education efforts include the ability to feed toucans, feed or high-5 a jaguar (as you can see on the right is AYT owner Nate doing), and learn about these amazing animals in a very natural & safe habitat.

Another 45 minutes away is San Ignacio, your home for the next few days.  San Ignacio is the regional hub for eco-tourism and historical Mayan sites, like Cahal Pec, Xunantunich, Caracol, and many others.

Your home near San Ignacio is Cassia Hill Resort, which is the epitome of a TRUE Central American holiday.  Your rooms are casitas spread over 90 acres, with Belizean mohagany interiors.  Each room is equipped with a private bathroom WITH hot water (yes, this is a real amenity in this part of the world!), air conditioning, television, wifi, and a queen or king size bed. Oh, and a hammock on the porch.

The resort boasts one of the best "infinity" pools we have ever stayed in - this freshwater pool has a beautiful sun deck and with drinks served from the nearby bar - makes for a great spot to relax at night and enjoy the sunset or star gaze late into the night.

The on premisis restaurant serves true Belizean & Guatemalan foods at a reasonable amount.  The bar serves up delicious treats along with Belikan, the beer of Belize.

While in San Ignacio, you can explore the ancient Mayan cities of Xunantunich or Cahal Pec - both within a short drive from the hotel.  The nearby city of San Ignacio has some great shopping & restaurants.  Cave tubing & zip lining are also very popular here, and the local tour operator can combine tours for you & also pick you up at the resort.

You will also need to get a COVID-19 test from nearby San Ignacio before returning home - once booked, we will send you the link to get that setup.

The itinerary as booked is done on purpose.  We have analyzed the flight schedules of all airlines serving Belize and avoid ANY overnights in Belize City.  We start out on the Cayes and move inland for your return so you have ample time to get back to Goldsen International Airport for your flight.  However if you wish to stay the night in Belize City upon arrival or the night before your departure, we have special rates with the Best Western Plus Biltmore Hotel.

This package is 100% independent and we provide you with a PDF guide so you know where to go & when.  We utilize TripIt to organize your trip, so keep your phone on wifi for the most up-to-date information on flights, hotels, and attractions.

Due to the popularity of Belize, run of house or room categories may not be available at time of booking.  If we are not able to find you a room type you like or alternative accommodations, we will refund the deposit paid in full.

$200 USD deposit per package (plus taxes) are required to begin the booking process.  This is refundable if we are not able to secure the accommodations as sold.   Upon confirming travel options, we will then require a 50% deposit, with final payment due 31 days before travel.

Room upgrades to pool side, apartment, and family-type rooms are available.  Please put in any requests in comments.

Packages are non-refundable, we highly recommend travel insurance.  AYT will work with vendors on possible name changes should you find someone to take a traveler's place.
